We are ecstatic that Handmade City will be taking over a section of Bucktown Center for the Arts for our upcoming April show! Taken straight form their website :

“Bucktown Center for the Arts is made up of over a dozen unique shops and studios where you can purchase creative, affordable, unusual and useable works of art. Visit us at our historic building in Downtown Davenport, Iowa where you’ll find artists creating everything from their next great piece to workshops for both kids and adults.

Bucktown is a component of MidCoast Fine Arts, a leading Quad-City non-profit organization focused on stimulating our community’s cultural and economic vitality through the support of regional visual arts and artists. Founded in July of 2005, Bucktown has played an important role in the continued growth of downtown’s Iowa Cultural and Entertainment District.”

With the creative atmosphere of the Bucktown building and the super cool artists that occupy it’s space we feel this is the perfect spot for our Spring ’12 craft & art fair. HMC will be taking over the third floor of this restored brick warehouse that sits in the heart of beautiful downtown Davenport. Bringing HMC to the Iowa side of the Q.C. for the first time is very exciting and we are looking forward to our shoppers heading across river to experience our unique vendors, live music and the resident Bucktown artist’ studios. The trip will be well worth the drive as this is sure to be our most enjoyable show yet!

We will be posting vendor highlights as the show nears, which will include a specific look at our vendors and the items they offer. Not only will each HMC4 vendor have a vendor highlight but we are happy to also be promoting the Bucktown artists and will be doing a mini highlight on their studios as well! Check back often as we will provide many sneak peeks over the coming weeks!

For more information on Bucktown and the artists who have studios there please visit their website. You can also “like” them on Facebook! To apply for our HMC4 – Spring event visit our application page, and yes we are also on Facebook!

Happy 2012! It has been nearly a month since our last show and what an awesome show it was! A GINORMOUS thank you to all of our vendors who worked so hard to help us spread the word, get their booths to look amazing, and come together to sell an incredible mixture of  handmade goodies!! We had the largest shopping crowd yet we’re very grateful for the publicity that Radish Magazine, WQAD 8 and Paula Sands threw our way. We know that helped bring in a lot of shoppers.

As far as pictures go we took plenty of shots during the event, you can view ALL the pics on our flickr page right here! We are now planning our next show which is set for Spring 2012. We will keep everyone updated with blog posts here on the site and emails through our mailing list. We are looking forward to hosting another fabulous handmade event – one of the coolest the Quad Cities has ever seen! If you are interested in being added to our mailing list please email us at handmadecityinfo (at) gmail (dot) com

Check out this great artist that will be selling at Handmade City Holiday (just 2 days away!) Malina Lee has shown art at Bucktown  in Davenport and the ARTery in Rock Island and we are happy to have her as a part of our community! Her colorful paintings and prints will fit right in with the other 22 vendors and we are looking forward to seeing her booth in person!

Another great vendor spotlight today! Nicole Simmering is the crafter behind Warm Fuzzies, mittens made from recycled sweaters! With so many colors and combinations to choose from we predict Nicole’s upcycled mittens will be a big hit this holiday. She has been crafting away in preparations for HMC3 so make sure you stop by her booth and pick up a pair for yourself and loved ones!

It is no secret that we think today’s vendor spotlight is the bee’s knees. Tarisha’s (P&C designer) sweet bags have been hanging out over on our Featured Artist Page for a few weeks now. Yes the time will come when we update that page (after HMC3) but P&C’s feature is one of our favorites so far and we don’t mind them loitering a bit longer. CLICK HERE to learn how Tarish gets her creative process gong and what handmade items she cherishes the most and visit Polk & California at our upcoming Holiday event on December 3rd.

Adrienne Anderson is an artsy mother that crafts all things cute. Her shop Plaid Peony will be selling handmade creations for babies, young girls and ladies at the Handmade City show. Adrienne’s appliqued onesies, stitched burped clothes, and fabric accessories are absolutely adorable and to top it off she is such a lovely lady to be around with seriously one of the cutest kids ever. We have a feeling you are gonna want to squeeze her boy’s cheeks (pictured above) if he is hanging with her in the booth! Visit Plaid Peony’s Etsy shop online and then say “hi” to Adrienne and pick up some fun stuff at her booth on December 3rd.

Another great artist from the Iowa City scene, Colin Greenhalgh of Pixels For Breakfast, will be selling his artwork and prints at the Handmade City Holiday show. Colin has some great work over on his site and inside his Etsy Shop. When we plan our events and ask for applications it makes us very happy to hear from vendors who are looking to sell original art. Indie craft masters provide a terrific selection of goods at our shows but we are also happy to help support artists looking to sell original work.

Photography by Tassy will be at our Holiday 2011 show! Tassy Johnson takes gorgeous pictures and it was last winter when we first came across her work. She has been a featured artist on the site where we learned what inspires her shots and the creative process she goes through to capture the perfect moment. Tassy will be selling prints and posters of her photography on December 3rd, she also has a lovely website showcasing come of her client work that you must check out today. We are happy to have Tassy make her second Handmade City appearance!
(you can see more of Tassy’s art prints here: Tassy’s Red Bubble Site.)

Phono Orange & Olive is brand new and hot off the presses! The two-person tag team consists of artists Joseph Lappie and Anna Richards. They will be selling letterpressed posters, postcards and cards as well as artist’s books and handmade blank journals at our Handmade City Holiday show. JOseph & Anna are in the process of uploading a site but to get an idea of the kind of artwork they will have available please visit Joseph’s site. Very cool images and letterpress stuff there, we are excited to see what they will bring for their booth!

I am always surprised at what this lady can whip up. Not only is she a creative chick, she is a cool mama, talented musician and good friend. I will most definitely be checking out Leah Leah‘s booth come December 3rd. She will be selling handmade sugar & salt srubs, lavender eye pillows, unique earrings, Desk gnomes, Embroidery hoops, coasters, knit hats (that sold out last year they are so cool.. and yes I have one!), flower clips  and one of her Christmas CDs!
